Therapy with a solution

With a background as a mental health therapist and trauma specialist, I am certified as an EMDR practitioner and Consultant-in-Training. I have witnessed immense transformations using EMDR therapy, and have seen clients shift the meaning of painful events on an emotional level. Unlike talk therapy, the insights gained in EMDR therapy result not so much from my clinical interpretation, but from your own accelerated intellectual and emotional processes.

The overall effect results in you feeling empowered by the very experiences that once devastated you. You will see that your wounds have not just closed, they have transformed. I have found that this is what helps people truly HEAL.

Transforming trauma into resilience: An empathetic approach

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy is an evidence-based practice that facilitates the accessing of traumatic memories and other adverse life experiences in order to reprocess them while also reducing the level of disturbance to a more neutral state.

When a disturbing event occurs, it can get locked in the brain with the images, sounds, thoughts, feelings and body sensations. EMDR seems to stimulate the information and allows the brain to process the experience. That may be what is happening in REM or dream sleep - the eye movements (tones, tactile) may help to process the material.

The bottom line is this:

It is your own brain that will be doing the healing and you are the one in control.

EMDR is different than other forms of therapy and uses bi-lateral stimulation (BLS) in a very structured way, formatted with eight different phases of treatment. BLS is the process of activating the left and right sides of the brain, typically using horizontal eye movements.
